ABSTRACT
The Research and Development project called “SICILYSEEDS - Innovative methodologies and technologies for the recovery, multiplication, enhancement and use of edible wild plants of the Sicilian flora,” lasting 30 months, was developed Infobiotech (as lead partner) with the collaboration of Enbiotech Srl and the Institute of Biosciences and Bioresources of the National Research Council.
The overall objective of the project was the identification, recovery, characterization and enhancement of some of the edible plants of the Sicilian wild flora suitable for human consumption, through the development and application of new technologies and protocols for industrial seed production and domestic production of germinated seedlings for fresh consumption.
OBJECTIVES
The specific objective was the development and testing in prototype form of kits for home use, consisting of:
- a micro growth chamber for home use, innovative and highly technological, capable of applying, for each specific type of seed, specific growth protocols based on the automatic control of parameters such as lighting, humidity and temperature;
- specific substrates for each specific type of species, obtained from the recovery of by-products from agriculture and/or agribusinesses;
- seeds of Sicilian edible flora recovered and genetically characterized from a sanitary point of view, selected from those most in demand for domestic use.
