ABSTRACT
The 36-month R&D project named “PHENYLTRACK - Design and development of a platform for the self-testing of phenylalanine levels in patients with hyperphenylalaninemias and Artificial Intelligence-supported clinical follow-up” is being carried out by Infobiotech (as lead partner) with the collaboration of Tinexta Cyber Srl, ICB/CNR and the Department of Pharmacology of UniCT.
The project aims at the realization of a platform for self-monitoring of phenylalanine levels in patients with hyperphenylalaninemias, consisting of new devices for self-monitoring and advanced digital services, supported by Artificial Intelligence, for rapid and safe patient follow-up.
OBJECTIVES
In summary, the system to be implemented in this project will consist of:
- biosensors made with key enabling technologies, containing both sensing and signal transduction modules. For this purpose, both enzymatic assays based on colorimetric transduction and non-enzymatic assays based on the use of nanomaterials that allow direct detection of Phe will be considered;
- portable detection devices, designed to be made with low-cost, easy-to-use, battery-powered components and connected wirelessly with the PhenylTrack platform, capable of handling all the steps necessary for biosensor operation, from thermostatting to colorimetric detection;
- PhenylTrack platform, consisting of a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure capable of acquiring, storing, and processing information from all detection devices in use by patients, based on artificial intelligence algorithms to support clinical follow-up of patients, and multi-platform user interface structured for differentiated access by different users of the systems (e.g., patients and clinical staff).
